HOCKEY SHIELD
RETAINED BY AUCKLAND
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, September 11. In a fast, exciting hockey contest Auckland retained the challenge shield yesterday, beating Wellington by 6 goals to 2. In spite of the speed and skill of the Wellington forwards, where Browne and Edwards were outstanding, there was neither enough combination nor enough support from the halves to keep the team long on attack. On the other hand, Auckland were* constantly besieging the opposing goal, showing an excellent understanding throughout. The Wellington defenders, { Perrin in particular, came through ai lot of work with credit. Goals were scored for Auckland by Roughton (2), Watson (2), Wyatt, and I Rowe, and for Wellington by Browne and Edwards.
