ORPHANS GIVE A PARTY
REAL GALA EVENING
Each year the Orphans' Club comes j forward with a delightful party, at, which their "girl friends" (meaning wives and daughters, among others) have an exceptionally pleasant time. The Masonic Hall is the place chosen, and there is a bright and friendly atmosphere from the moment ' the guests arrive, for laughter and conversation begin at once. This friendly feeling was evident all Saturday evening, and the committee was congratulated on its success. • Bright decorations were well arranged. Streamers of orange, blue, and red made a canopy above of colour, and across the stage was the greeting from the club, "Welcome, Ladies." The lettering was in gold with a background of flags, which are always so effective. Pennant flags in many colours with a decor of gold tinsel discs appeared around the walls, and the bordering of the stage was in blue and gold also. With crossed streamers of blue and gold the supper tables were arranged with vases of lovely spring flowers, which added to the enjoyment of the good things provided. Mr. W. J. Mountjoy, the Chief Orphan, welcomed the visitors. After the singing of the National Anthem and the "Ode," in which everybody joined with enthusiasm, the orchestra, under the direction of Mr. H. Godier, played three charming items, followed by humorous items by Mr. Will Yates. A bracket of pianoforte solos by Mr. Henry followed, and Mr. Martin Liddle sang several baritone solos. The "Korero" ended with a clever clown act provided by the Jenkins School of Physical.Culture. The executive committee comprised Messrs. W. J. Mountjoy (president), and F. R. Aveling, F. Bonifant, William Campbell, H. A. Elliott, W. Ellis, T. G. Glover, M. E. Nolan, R. Laurie, H. H. Parkinson, S. W. Ridley, F. S. Spillerberg, H.
