WHEN MOTHERS MEET
"BIRTHDAY" CELEBRATION
The Masonic Hall, Island Bay, was artistically decorated with spring flowers on the occasion of the twelfth birthday of the Island Bay-Berhampore branch of the League of Mothers. Mrs. F. Janson, president, welcomed the large number of visitors from other branches, the presidents of which were presented with sprays of flowers. Mrs. Kersley, Dominion president, was on the platform and also received flowers. An induction service was held, nine new members being admitted. Mesdames Duncan and Ewen sang as a duet "Sing Joyofes Bird" and as an encore "Home Sweet Home." Captain Galloway (secretary of the Red Cross Society) gave an interesting address on Red Cross work.' People did not, he said, realise the help given j by the local society nor the effect of training given in the schools, and he gave instances where children had rendered great assistance with their knowledge of first aid at an accident until a doctor could be summoned. He gave the branch a "birthday present" by way of pamphlets on first aid to be distributed among the members. j Mrs. Kersley made a kindly speech, 'conveying birthday wishes, and greetings were also received from the former secretary, Miss I. Craig. Mrs. A. McLean gave the thought for the month: "Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops yourself." After thanking the speakers Mrs. Janson cut the birthday cake, which was handed round and afternoon tea was served.
