SOLDIERS' AMUSEMENTS
NGAIO, R.S.A. BALL
Streamers of traditional red and blue radiating from a huge centre of white formed the decorative scheme for the annual ball of the Ngaio returned soldiers held recently. On the walls hung large baskets of scarlet poppies, and the stage was decorated with flags, greenery, poppies, and spring flowers. A large replica of the R.S.A. badge adorned the centre of the stage and the whole of the decorative effect was much admired by the large number who attended the function. Mr. S. Harrison (secretary of the New Zealand R.S.A.) was present, land with Mrs. Harrison was accorded I a welcome to the district by the chairI man of the auxiliary, Mr. A. X. ! Franks, who also thanked those present [for their support, and paid a special i tribute to the ladies' committee for their efforts in making the function such a pronounced success. This committee comprised Mesdames A. Williamson (convener), H. Bennett, E. McCrae, T. Lomas, J. Humphries, W. McKinstrey, A. Holloway, F. Johnson, F. Renton, A. Willman, and J. Woods. SOCIAL AFTERNOON. Mrs. G. d'Emden held a very successful afternoon for the Wellington South African War Veterans' Association at the club-rooms, LambtonQuay, yesterday. The guests played cards. Mrs. Pearson won at, bridge' and a consolation prize was awarded Mrs. Cull. Mrs. Street secured the' "500" prize and .Mrs. Flanigan a con-' solation prize. Mrs. Morris was sue-. cessful at euchre, the consolation prize., going to Mrs. Dunn, A very enjoyable tea and savouries was dispensed? during the interval. ;
