WINDCRESS INJURED
ANOPHELES IS PROMISING
(Special to the "Evening Post.")
TAKANINI, September 7. Although adverse weather, conditions have interfered to some extent with the preparation of local horses for the Avondale Meeting, the interruptions through closed tracks have not been as serious as would appear, and in all probability horses from the district should be as forward as most next week. "'
Te Potp, who has been raced oh lease during the past year, has returned to her owner, Mr. A. H. Paul, and the Tea Tray filly is again under F. Smith's cuidance. She raced with success at Taranaki, Rotorua, and Thames, and at an advanced age is likely to go on to better deeds. She was inclined to be highly strung when dn work here previously but.in the interim has settled down to a great extent, and she should prove a useful sprinter this term.
An Avondale Stakes contestant who promises to play a prominent part in the decision of this event is the Vaals filly Anopheles. She has made great progress of late, and having already shown plenty of pace in her work a good effort is expected from her. Windcress injured his shoulder while exercising on the roads and his absence from the track may extend for a week or two yet.
E. Pope is considering a trip to the Marton . Meeting, following Avondale next week, and three ,of his team likely to make the trip are Maxam, Anopheles, and the Lysander—Adi Vunivola filly. The latter has previously been referred to as Lady Clare, a name that jhas subsequently been disallowed.
Hunting Cape, an acceptor for the Avondale Stakes, was left in the final payments by error, and her connections have no intention of racing her at the meeting. Miss Lovelock's preparation is being continued, but- there is not so much optimism regarding her future as formerly, and it is doubtful whether Flood Tide's full-sister will ever reach the standard of her elder relative.
