A POPULAR GIRL
Miss Gwenda Webb, a well-known competitions singer of a few years ago, who is shortly to be married, has' been honoured with quite a round of social events and presentations. The first took the form of a "kitchen tea," the hostesses being Misses Cox and Russell, at which she received many useful utensils, and a delightful afternoon tea was served. A "bathroom tea" was held at the home of her sister-in-law (Mrs. E. G. Webb), where numbers of bathroom requisites were presented, together with a lovely afternoon tea. Then followed a gala night, when Miss Webb was the guest of her future sister-in-law (Miss Bowe) at a "gift evening" and dance, where 80 young people were present who brought most generous gifts, supper later being served. The next took the form of a "surprise party," the hostesses being Misses Gilby and Fraser, where gifts were brought to line the pantry shelves. The evening was brought to^ a close with supper and "For She's a Jolly Good Fellow." The next to entertain were the friends of the bride and bridegroom of St. James's Church. The supper-room was tastefully decorated with streamers and flowers, and the tables set with good things. Several valedictory speeches were made, and they were presented with a chiming clock as a mark of esteem and a token of remembrance of their association in that sphere. Miss Webb was also bidden farewell by the members of the St. James's choir, with whom /she has long been associated, and was presented with a handsome silvermounted fruit dish. A dainty supper was served. i
Clothes pegs will last longer if before being used they are placed in cold water and brought to boiling point, then rinsed, and dried in the shade.
