PALMERSTON N., This Day. Awapuni horses with engagements at Wanganui were given their final gallops yesterday morning, and the conditions could not have been better. The course, with the flags wide out, was available, and the going was good. _ The fastest five furlongs of the morning was credited to Laughing Lass, who, from a standing start, cut the distance out in lmin 5 l-ssec, being timed to run the last three in better than 40sec. She is in good nick, although there is just a chance that she will improve with a race. Florence Mills traversed five furlpngs in lmin 5. 4-ssec, after running the first two in 25 4-ssec. Though her time was not as good as that of Laughing Lass, she went particularly well, and it was a very nice gallop. Old Bill and Quadroon were also worked over five furlongs, the former being a shade in front at the end in lmin 6 3-ssec. Quadroon, who covered the last three in 39 3-ssec, was galloping1 very easily at the finish, and his effort was most attractive.

Ecstatic and Prediction sprinted five furlongs in lmin 7 l-ssec, the last three m 40 4-ssec, Ecstatic being in front all the way. .Silver Ring beat Great Legion over five furlongs run in lmin 6 3-ssec. Great Legion looks to be in good condition for Wanganui. Sporting Gift traversed five furlongs with Golden Ridge and ' Aero Lad in lmin 6 3-ssec, the last four having taken 53 4-ssec. Sporting Gift looks well.

Erebus and Aurora's Love worked over seven furlongs, running the last five in lmin lOsec. They were together at the finish,, but Erebus was doing it very easily.

Vadanoe sprinted five furlongs in lmin 9 3-ssec, and Chere Ami just beat Puroto over the same distance in lmin 7 2-ssec. the last three in 40sec.

Vascones and a Lackham-Elusive colt scampered over three furlongs in 39 3-ssec, both going well. Sporting Luck, alone, ran half a mile in 55sec.

The Bigot was not asked to do his best over ,six furlongs, which took lmin 26sec, and The Buzzer ran the same distance in, lmin 22sec, breaking lmin 9sec for the last five. It was'an attractive effdrt. ' ,

Tidewaiter and Rarotonga were not required to do better than even time for the first five furlongs of a mile, but they ran the last three in 42 l-ssee. Segra sprinted half a mile in 54sec, the last three in 39£ sec. Dainty Sue just beat Snigger over the same distance in 54 3-ssec.

Barley Almond ■ and Royal Choice were a couple of lengths in front of Sky Full at the end of a mile in a tick under lmin 51 sec, <the last seven in lmin 35 4-ssec. Tail Light and Porotiti were schooled, giving a faultless exhibition of jumping. McDowell will ride Tail' Light at Wanganui. Ika has. a cold, and Hirangi, who knocked a stifle at New Plymouth, is not expected to race again until next winter. , , Sudan and Thracos, were companions over six furlongs, the last five in lmin 7sec. It was a good effort. Power Chief was worked over six furlongs with Merry Thought. The latter set him a merry dance down 4he back stretch, but the steeplechaser was shaken up and he gradually closed the gap, being on terms at the finish. ■'•■.. Warehi beat Strolling over six furlongs in lmin 24sec. ~[ White Gold, who was having her first fast work for a very long time, ran her first fur-long in 15sec and came home the last three furlongs in 39seci She pulled up well and indicated that there is no doubt about her ability to | gallop.
