Rainfall in previous 24 hours, 0.34 in; rainfall to .date this month, 0.83 in; rainfall to date this year, 40.44 in; rainfall average for September, 3.20 in; rainfall average from January 1 to the end of September, 32.871n.

SYNOPSIS OF CAST 24 HOURS,

An anti-cyclone with Its centre east of Tasmania has been advancing on to the southern ftalf of the South Island. A depression of moderate depth has slowly crossed the Auckland Peninsula while pressure has continued, low to the east. The barometer is falling at Hobart. Winds have been between southeast and south-west, moderate in force in the Hawke's Bay and South Auckland Provinces but strong eleswhere, with gales along the east coast of the South Island, about Cook Strait, and in parts of Taranaki. Temperatures have become cold, and It is snowing in the Southern Alps and on, Mount Egmont.
