GREYHOUND STILL SUPREME

The trotting season in America was m full swing when the last mail left, and there was some sensational trotting at the North Randall Meeting early in Jul^. The big event was the Championship Challenge Stakes; which was won by Greyhound in two straight heats, the first in 2min Isec and the second in a fifth of a second faster time. The second heat showed the real speed of the phenomenal grey. He trotted the first quarter, in 3y|sec, the half-mile in 62|sec, and six furlongs in lmin 34sec. The last quarter was run in 36£ sec, the fastest on record for this distance. At one time there seemed a possibility of 'Greyhound being brought to New Zealand for the Inter-Dominion Championships, but the appearance money asked for was too high for the trotting authorities holding the meeting.
