SOCIETY'S ANNUAL SHOW

The Anglican Girls' Clubs' Societyheld their annual show in St. Mark's Schoolroom on Thursday evening, when members from the various clubs presented exhibits .in cooking and crochet and fancy work. There was considerable interest in the work of the different sections. The judges were Misses Thomson and Hales (fancywork) and Misses P,arlane and Wells (cooking). . St. Mary's Club (Karori) were successful in gaining . the highest number of points in the show, 54; Wellington City Chib came second with 41 points, St. Mark's jthird, 17, and All Saints, Kilbirnie, 16 points. A prize for the individual competitor winning: the most points went to Miss Tobin' 4 (Wellington City), with 16 points, and Miss Lyon (also Wellington City) came second with 14 points. Miss Tobin also gained highest points for handwork, 16, and Miss Feamley, St. Mark's, came second with 6 points. For the most points in cooking, 'Miss Sund (Karori) and Miss Lyon (Wellington City) both obtained 12 points,, and a special prize for handwork was awarded to Miss Tobin. On completion of the work of the judges, which was very considerable on account of the large number of entries, a varied programme of musical items was contributed by the following:—Songs, Misses Coombs (All Saints, Kilbirnie), Miss Rust (All Saints). Miss Martin (St. Mark's), Miss Maxwell (St. Mary's); recitation, Miss Duthie (St Mark's); piano solo, Miss Mead (Wellington City); violin solo, Miss Field (Wellington City); and piano solo, Miss Taylor (St. Cuthbert's, Berhampore). '

Many functions have been held in Wanganui during the past few weeks, by friends of the Wanganui Garrison Band, in order to raise funds for new equipment. A queen carnival contest vas arranged, and the supporters of four queens are very busy. On Thursday afternoon, a large party was held in honour of all the candidates, and those contributing to the programme were Mesdames Trussell, R. Westwood, H. Gilberd, Misses P.. Taylor, Merle Spurdle, J. Walpole. and Master Barry Trussell. Mrs. E. Wills played the accompaniments. Farewell Party. The supper room at the Waverley Town Hall was the rendezvous recently for many friends of Mr. and Mrs. T. Casey prior to their leaving for Ellerslie. Dancing and singing filled an enjoyable evening and presentations were made from town and country friends and from the railway staff. Personals. Mrs. W. K. McLean, Awanui, is visiting Mrs. Gibbons, Hikurangi. Mrs: A. G. Munro left this week to take up residence in Auckland. Miss C. Herbert Smith, of the Wanganui Girls' College staff, was an adjudicator at the Hawera competitions. Mrs. J. Russell, Dannevirke, is visiting Miss Bruce. Mrs. N. Bancks is visiting Wellington. Mrs. C. Young has returned from a visit to Wellington. . ! Mrs. Russell Scoular has returned from Christchurch, where she gave a broadcast, and also sang at Miss Elaine Newton's pianoforte recital. Miss D. Perrett has returned from a three weeks' cruise of the Islands. Miss Betty Wilkie, Wellington, is visiting Mr. and Mrs. F. H. Wilkie. Miss Shirley Latham, Solway College, is staying with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. Latham. Miss P. Brown, who recently returned from England, is visiting Wellington and Wanganui. Mrs. F. Waite is an Auckland visitor and the guest of Mrs. A. Haworth. Mrs. A. Cameron, Te Kuiti, is the guest of her sister, Mrs.. Eric Cutfield.
