ARMY EXAMINATIONS
TERRITORIAL OFFICERS
Thirty-three candidates today commenced the annual examinations for promotion in the New Zealand Territorial Army, which are being held at Fort Dorset and Featherston. The examinations are usually held at Trentham, but owing to sickness there, the camp has been temporarily closed. The candidates are from the Central Military District which embraces almost all of the southern portion of the North Island.
In addition to sitting for theoretical papers, the candidates are required to attend a preliminary course of instruction during the week preceding the examinations. The practical examinations will be held tomorrow, while further papers on theoretical aspects of military work will be set on Friday.
The candidates comprise 15 lieutenants who are sitting the examination for promotion to captaincy, .12 captains who are sitting for their, majority, and six majors who are sitting the tactical fitness (part 2) examination for promotion to the rank of lieutenantcolonel.
At Featherston the following officers of the New Zealand Staff Corps are acting as instructors: —Major L. Potter, Captain G. M. McCaskill, Lieutenant P. G. Monk, and Lieutenant J. D. Armstrong. Captains sitting for promotion jto majbr will be examined in practical work By a board consisting of Lieuten-ant-Colonel R. A. Row, D.5.0., N.Z.S.C., and Captain L. W. Andrew, V.C., N.Z.S.C; and lieutenants for promotion to captain by Major F. L. Hunt, N.Z.S.C., and Lieutenant E. J, Horwood, N.Z.S.C. Non-commissioned officers sitting the examination for first appointment to commission will be examined by Lieutenant J. D. Armstrong. N.Z.S.C.
