HARRIERS
> PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The decision to uphold running A and B events together at the provincial championships on Saturday was made at Monday night's meeting of the Wellington Harrier Sub-commit-tee. An endeavour to rescind a former resolution in favour of this, on the ground that it would lead to confusion, failed, the chairman (Mr. R. Spence) pointing out that the A grade would carry numbers and the B grade letters, obviating confusion, while a late finish would be avoided. It was decided to start A men in front of B and to dispense with the wearing of registration numbers by competitors, as all registrations were checked prior to a race. The teams medals for the championships were increased to six. The following officials for the championships were approved:—Referee. Mr. J. D. Edgar; marshal, Mr. R. Watterson; starter. Mr. D. Leslie; judges, Messrs. W. Whelan, H. Walker, and J. Perston; recording stewards (attendants to judges), Messrs. L. Todd, J. O'Neill, M. Gough; chief timekeeper, Mr. P. N. Denton; timekeepers, Messrs. G. C. Sherwood, J. Bradbury, sen., G. Goddard, T. Fraser. W. W. Ballantyne, D. Bothwell, A. Miet; recording stewards (assistants to timekeepers), Messrs. C. Phipson, A. Irvine, N. Craig; course stewards, Mr. C. A. Willis and two from each club; selector, Mr. C. A. Willis; call stewards.' Messrs. W. K. Scrymgeour and N. Craig. The chairman was authorised to suggest to the committee in chagre of the annual Labour Day sports that the 26-mile marathon race be held each year in conjunction with the sports.
