HERE AND THERE

Happy Gift Evening. A gift evening was given by Mrs. W. Williamson and Mrs. C. Dobson recently in honour of Miss Jean Flan, whose marriage to Mr. Tomlinson Stewart will take place shortly. The Melrose Hall was used for the occasion and the guests were received by the bride-elect and her mother. There were many dancers among the visitors, who greatly appreciated the music supplied by Mrs. Smith. Mr. Legett was Master of Ceremonies. Tap dances were given by Miss T. Huchinson and Miss Smith, and recitations by Miss Fae Johnson and Miss Myra Flan. A delicious savoury supper was served, after which Miss Flan and Mr. Stewart opened their many parcels. The guests included Mr. and Miss Shaw and Mr. Keir (Masterton), Mrs. andj Miss Mexted, Mr. and Mrs. Baigent, | Miss J. Martin, Mr. and Mrs. C. Dobson, Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. W. Williamson, sen., Mr. and Mrs. W. Williamson, Mr. and Mrs. M. Williamson, Mr. and Mrs. R. Flan, Mr. and Mrs. F. Lewis, Miss Stewart, Mr. H. Green, and Misses Noreen, June, and Myra Flan. Young People Entertained. A pleasant evening was spent recently at Hataitai when Mrs. Cadwallader entertained a number of young people in honour of her elder daughter Joyce. The drawing-room (which was used for dancing and games) and the lounge were charmingly decorated with bowls of yellow narcissi, and j holly berries were used for decorating the dining-room, in which an excellent supper was served. Mrs. Cadwallader received her guests wearing a frock of black lace with touches of cyclamen, and she carried a posy of cyclamen and.maidenhair fern. Miss Joyce Cadwallader wore a dainty frock of clover georgette relieved with lemon, and Miss Shirley Cadwallader's frock was of black velvet. Just before supper, the latter presented her sister with a golden key, which had been autographed by all the guests. Among those present were Misses F. Rands, B. Browell, J. Satterley, A. and D. Anderson, J. Taylor, C. Sidaway, J. Emerson, N. Jackson, N. and A. Knox, E. Tremewan, B. Lamb, Pat Schmitt, M. Pritchard, Messrs. V. Cadwallader, N.. Dallison, R. Campbell, N. Taylor, J. Fogelberg, D. Richardson, R. Jones, Trevor Smith, P. Balham, T. McMurtrie, S. Halliday, A. Danson, J. Whiteford, C. Phillips, D. MacPherson, J. and R. Croft. Correspondents' Requests. A correspondent would be pleased to know of a cure for furniture borer. Also the best method of cleaning aluminium kitchen utensils, both inside and out. Another correspondent asks for a recipe for unleavened bread.
