CAUSE OF SUBWAY SMASH

NEW YORK, August 22.

The subway smash in which three people lost their lives was the result of an excited woman attempting to leave the train as the doors were closing and thereby starting a chain ol events whifch led to the crash. She had a hand jammed in the doors and when the train stopped for her to be released an incoming train crashed into it. •

The report of the smash appears on page 9. -
