VICEREGAL.
His Excellency the Governor-Genv eral presided at a meeting of the Rudyard Kipling Scholarship Committee at Government House this morning. The Governor-General will leave Wellington- by air this afternoon for Nelson where his Excellency is to undertake a number of engagements tomorrow. On Wednesday evening the Gover-nor-General will arrive at Christchurch, and on the following morning, accompanied by Lady Galway, his Excellency will proceed to Dunedin. Their Excellencies will return to Wellington on the morning of Thursday, September 1. Sir Albert Seward, the famou* botanist, has been elected president of the British Association for the meeting at Dundee in 1938, states a British Official Wireless message from Rugby. Mr. B. C. Gifford, accountant in the railway goods office at Wanganui, who has been transferred to Masterton to take charge of the goods department i there, was farewelle'd recently and wai , made a presentation by the station- , master at Wanganui, Mr. E. W. E. Ca> ter, on behalf of the staff. Mr. Gifford was stationed at Wanganui for i 18 years and occupied various posii tions in the Department. His successor at Wanganui is Mr. G. Kenyon. Mr. S. G. Wilson, of the Wellington train-running office, has been > trans- [ ferred on promotion to the Wanganui staff of the Railway Department. Another transfer to Wanganui is that of Mr. H. Johansen, formerly wagon supply officer at Palmerston North. He has been appointed train control operator at Wanganui. • : Mr. J. L. Warren, of Paramount Pic--1 tures, left by the Limited express last night for Auckland, where he will catch the Mariposa this evening en, route to Los Angeles and Holly wood; He will spend four weeks observing production technique at the Paramount studios. Mr. Benton Bell will return from Christchurch tomorrow morning. Mr. E.. A. Brown, a trustee of tha Auckland Savings Bank, and Mr. P. E. Sutherland, manager, arrived today by the Limited express on their way to Dunedin, where they will attend a meeting of savings banlc authorities. Major D. H. W. H. Donaldson has relinquished, the post of assistant adjutant and quartermaster-general in the northern military district and is to be attached to army headquarters. His position in the northern military district is to be filled by Major W. I. K. Jennings, who has already left Wellington; -Bishop J. Ross, Vicar Apostolic of Hiroshima, Japan, who has been visiting New Zealand since the end of February, will leave Auckland tonight by the Aorangi for Sydney.
