LONDON MEAT PRICES
Levin and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London agents, dated August 18, giving North Island frozen meat quotations as foli^ s«: ~:5? ,vyn lambs, 28/361b 7|d per lb. 36/42 7£d; crossbred lambs, 28/36 7 5-Bd, 36/42 7 5-8 d; second quality lambs, average 30/41, 6|d; wether sheep, under 48 sd, 48/56 4Jd, 56/64 4 5-Bd, 64/72 4£d; ewes,«under 48 3 5-Bd, 48/56 3|d, 56/64 3d, 64/72 2 7-Bd. ComEared with last week's quotations, •own lambs l-8d per lb higher; crossbred lamb, 28/361b, id . per lb higher, 36/42 ib l-8d per lb higher; wethers, 48/ 561b, l-8d per lb lower; ewes, 56/721b, l-8d per lb lower. Others unchanged. The lamb market is firm all round. The demand is poor for mutton, the market being easier all round. Cathie, Dempster, and Co., Ltd., received the following cable from Sheed, Thomson, and Co., Ltd., London, this morning:—Lambs, 2's 7£d to 7Jd. B's 7£d to 7|d, 4's 7£d to 7 3-Bd, seconds 6|d to 7£d; wethers, l's, 7's 4 5-Bd, 3's, 9's, s's 3|d to 4£d; ewes, l's, 7's, 3£d to 3 5-Bd, 3's 9's, s's 2%d to .3 l-8d; porkers, 6 5-8 dto 6fd ;bconers, 6fd. The lamb market is improving and looks like going higher. For wethers and ewes the market continues very slow. Beef prices are nominal. For porkers the market is steady but the demand is low. For baconers the market is inclined to be weaker. The supplies exceed the demand.
