WARNING SUSPECTS
COMMENT BY CHIEF JUSTICE
"There are certain rules which, amount to principles in matters of this kind which should be sacredly observed," said the Chief Justice (Sir Michael Myers), in the Supreme Court today, when commenting on the fact that a written statement by a detective did not show that a suspect had been warned before questioning." "They may have been observed in thii case, and I make no comment; but I suggest making inquiries. If there should be any departure from those principles which have been laid down for the guidance of those connected with the Investigation of criminal matters it is desirable that that departure b« checked: promptly. I can't say whether there has been a departure in this case, but at first sight it appears that there may have been." ■
