PUBLIC TEPID SWIMMING BATHS
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —The necessity of a tepid swimming bath for the Capital City has been discussed from time to time, and citizens were led to believe that, as the site was decided on (Clyde Quay) and the plans were published, this important work would be gone on with. Your paper informed its readers the other day of the lack of accommodation in the city due to the visitors for the races. We read also where the New Zealand footballers could not get their usual accommodation and that people were accepting shakedowns. Now, Sir, Wellington people know the position regarding bathing facilities when acocmmodation is taxed, and when shakedowns are in use the chance of getting enough baths is small. We have an Exhibition next year, and will have, I believe, very much greater numbers of visitors and without an up-to-date bathing place. Cannot the City Council see far enough ahead to imagine the necessity of this important work? I can imagine some of the criticism that will be levelled at us from overseas visitors. Many of these people will probably have to accept shakedown accommodation, and will soon be inquiring where they may get a hot shower, or bath.—l am, etc.,
E. MOORE.
