DROUGHT OF CHURT
MR. LLOYD GEORGE'S FIGHT
Having nothing else to fight at the moment, Mr. Lloyd George has been fighting the drought down at Churt, says the "Manchester Guardian." Shortage of water has plagued his farming for two or three years. Some days ago (the fight being on, but only in his mind) he ran into a Highlander and his wife who had taken over a bit of land near him. He found the Highlander had a well which was giving him plenty of water. How in the name of natural law could this be? He had searched everywhere on his adjoining land for water but without success. "How is it done?" Mr. Lloyd George asked. "Well, you see, the wife's a bit of a water diviner," said the man. "Is she, indeed," Mr. Lloyd George replied, and there and then he invited her to come over and help. The Highland wife was, not there very long before the twig she was carrying bent, and at that spot an artesian well has been sunk and it is reputed to be giving a tested gallonage of 300,000 a day. The fight is very much on now. Mr. Lloyd George is constructing a system of perforated pipes over his land, and soon he will only have to say the word and* rain will fall all over Churt. That is what happens when wizard meets wizard.
