BROADWAY OR HOLLYWOOD?

"It may be insularity," writes Ira Wolfert in the "San Francisco Chronicle." but the fact is that of «11 the people who have their name up in lights on Broadway, very few come from Hollywood. Outstanding • exceptions were Frances Farmer in Clifford Odets's "Golden Boy" and Paul Lukas in Ibsen's "Doll's House." . Recent Broadway stars of the month were In a Claire, George M. Cohan, Lillian Gish, Burgess Meredith, Ed. Wyrin, DudleyDigges, Sir Cedric Hardwicke (the cleyer English actor), Gertrude Lawrence, another British invader, "Leslie Banks, also from Home. Ruth Gordon, and Marc Blitztein.. a pianist. From this list it is obvious to the frankspoken critic that Hollywood does unto its neighbours likewise. Ina Claire and Lillian Gish are considered hasbeens in Hollywood; Ruth Gordon has been spurned consistently; George Cohan was not a film success, and Gertrude Lawrence has not had an even break in pictures, either.
