Mean wind velocity for 24 hours ending. 9 a.m. today, 9' m.p.h. SYNOPSIS OF LAST 24 HOURS,

A rather intense anticyclone now extends from eastern Australia across the Tasman Sea on to New Zealand. Pressure is still higher over the South Island than over the North. South-easterly winds prevail from Nelson and Marlborough northwards, but orer the remainder of the South Island winds are variable. There were still a few scattered showers falling at 9 a.m.' between Cool; Strait and East Cape and. In the farth north, but otherwise the weather was fine. During the past 24 hours scattered light to moderate rains had fallen in eastern and northern districts. Temperatures have been cold and some hard frosts are reported.
