BRITISH POLICY
CHURCHMEN ANXIOUS
FAILURE TO STAND BY
THE LEAGUE
THE MORAL BASIS
United Press Association—By Electric Tel«? graph—Copyright. • (Received July 7, 1.15 p.m.) LONDON, July 6. The Archbishop of York, nine bishops, and other churchmen, issued a statement in which they claim to represent a multitude of people who are anxious regarding the moral basis of British foreign policy and re-armament, which they declare has deteriorated owing to the failure to stand by the League of Nations. They do not dissent at Britain resorting to war in self-defence, including the safeguarding of the Empire, but are anxious lest Britain drift from moral principles and guide her actions by sheer expediency.
