MANAWATU BEATEN

PALMERSTON N., This Day.

Though the visiting Australian badminton players easily outclassed the Manawatu representatives on Saturday night the home players did not go down without a struggle, and there were times when it appeared as if Manawatu might tip the balance in their favour m individual rubbers. The men did better than the women. The visitors were accorded a welcome by the Mayor of Palmerston. North, Mr. A. E. Mansford.

Results were as follows, Manawatu players being mentioned first:— Men's Singles.—C. Dunn lost to R. J. Harper, 4-15, 10-15; C. Sheerin lost to B. G. Tonkin, 15-12, 12-15, 9-15. Women's Singles.—Miss P. Rodden lost to Miss E. Robert, 1-11, 2-11; Mrs. C. Dunn lost to Miss I. Hewett, 4-11, 2-11.

Men's Doubles. —Duncalf and Sheerin lost to Harper and Tonkin, 6-15, 7-15. Women's Doubles. —Misses Rodden and Orchard lost to Misses Robert and Hewett, 1-15, 4-15.

Mixed Doubles.—Dunn and Mrs. Dunn lost to Harper and Miss Hewett, 9-15, 18-13, 6-15; Duncalf and Miss Orchard lost to Tonkin and Miss Robert, 1-15, 9-15.
