BADMINTON

TOURISTS RETURN

TEST MATCH TOMORROW

Victorious in all matches and with a record of only a few rubbers lost, the touring Australian badminton players returned to Wellington yesterday and today from their South and North Islands tours. - The South Island team, which played first at Masterton and Wellington, returned with a record of only three rubbers lost in seven matches, and the North Island side's record was almost as impressive. The eight players of the party, tomorrow night, will face the first New Zealand Test team chosen for an international match at the Town Hall. Play will also be held on Wednesday night. Twenty rubbers will be played in the match, the extra four rubbers coming from the doubles, in which each comibination will meet two others.

Play of exceptional skill and consistency has been demonstrated by the visitors. They haveplayed two representative matches, against the North and South Islands, winning each, ana no provincial association has been able to defeat them. Moreover, tne strength of the team has been convincingly demonstrated by the heavy margins of victory. Except for one* match at Oamaru, the South Island team made a clean sweep of all the matches. The period available for the playing of matches was short and the tour arranged by the New Zealand Federation was necessarily somewhat hurried. Nevertheless, the visitors striven jto play at top throughout and the number of victories scored by them over [high-ranking New Zealanders has been remarkable.

The members of the New Zealand team, consisting of P. Hawksworth (Masterton), J. Spedding (New Plymouth), E. A. Roussell (Wellington), R. Lewis (Hamilton)j Misses M. Kerr (Dunedin), M. Edmondson (Hamilton), N. Fleming (Wellington), and Mrs. P. F. Wren (Auckland), have arrived in the city. They are staying at Sayes Court.

Prospects for the two nights' play in the Test are excellent and the New Zealand team, consisting of the eight finest players in the country, should give a good account of itself.
