'WANTED TO HIRE—A TIARA!'

One of those awkward little" problems sometimes . associated with the "best people" and the London season is raised by the announcement that a "lady of social position" wishes to hire "an imposing tiara" for one night, comments "Lucio" in the "Manchester Guardian." Presumably there is some quite simple explanation, but —how awkward for a number of other ladies of social position! How difficult for them to wear just at present even a perfectly authentic family tiara, more especially if it happens to be "imposing"! Will there not be eyes taking stock of all imposing tiaras, and will it be possible to avoid suspicion in the circumstances? Surely it will be uncomfortable to feel that people ure speculating on the subject, and- one can hardly adorn a family tiara with a kind of genealogical table authenticating its pedigree.

Also, is there not some reason to fear that the owner who has hired it out for the night will be anxiously in attendance, determined not to lose sight of it in case any unfortunate accident should happen? Uneasy lies the head that wears a crown, but uneasier still may be the head whose crown someone else is wearing.
