FRENCH GUIANA
ABOLITION DECREE
(Received June 30, 1 p.m.}
PARIS, June 29. Devil Island and all other penal establishments in French Guiana ar« abolished by a decree which enforces the provisions of a Bill introduced in Parliament in 1936 and which has actually been observed ever since. Since then convicts sentenced to deportation, have remained in the prisons in France. ■ Those now in Guiana will not be r> patriated, but allowed to die out.
