THREAT OF STRIKE
AUSTRALIAN MINERS
PROPRIETORS STAND FIRM (Received June 30, 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Despite the threat of a strike by the miners, the colliery proprietors have decided not to agree to any reduction in the existing hours, which is one of J the principal claims of the Miners' Federation.
"If the miners resort to direct action and close the pits the responsibility for the stoppage will rest on their shoulders," said the chairman of the Northern Collieries Association, Mr. J. McGann, in announcing the decision of the mine proprietors not to give way.
