DEFENCE OF DOMINION
SUPPORT FROM WOMEN
Gratification at the encouragement being given by many employers to their staffs to join the Territorial forces is expressed in a statement issued yesterday by the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Defence League. "Some employers are placing notices in their establishments intimating that employees enlisting in the Territorials will receive pay during their absence in camp," states the branch. "This is an I example that the league hopes will be j followed by leading commercial concerns throughout the Dominion.
"The league desires to place on record its appreciation of the work and enthusiasm being displayed by lady members. Many ladies are taking a keen interest in the question of defence and we are grateful for their help in keeping the subject prominently before the public. This gratifying support from women is to be highly commended. They fully realise that the best way to avoid war is to be well prepared for it, and the league looks forward to their continued assistance in bringing before the Government the need for the defences of the Dominion to be put on an adequate and proper basis.
"It is being increasingly recognised that the league's aim in endeavouring to increase the trained man-power of the Dominion to meet a national crisis is a movement worthy of the support of all sections of the community."
