THREE VACANT SEATS
HIGH SCHOOLS' BOARD | (By Telegraph.) (Special to the "Evening Post.") NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. When the New Plymouth High Schools' Board met last night only five of the statutory number of ten members were present. Two were given leave of absence but three seats were vacant because of the failure by the Government to nominate three appointees of the Governor-General. The three Government representatives on the board during the last term of office were Messrs. W. H. Billing (chairman), P. J. H. White, and Miss C. A. Douglas. In the circumstances the board did not elect a chairman as is usual. The secretary, Mr. E. Lash, formally reported the reappointment of representatives of the New Plymouth Borough and Taranaki County Councils, the Taranaki Education Board, and the employers and employees. "I am sorry to say," said Mr. Lash, "that notwithstanding due notice in the terms of the Act and a later reminder having been given to the Minister of Education, no nominees of the GovernorGeneral have been appointed, so that meanwhile the board is without the services of three useful members."
