» MILDER TEMPERATURES Wellington forecast:— Light northerly winds, soon predominating and gradually freshening:. Weather fine but cloud increasing: tomorrow. Temperatures rather milder. The general forecast issued at noon today for the Dominion as a whole is for light to moderate and variable winds with northerlies soon predominating about and south of Cook Strait and gradually freshening. The weather will be fair to fine generally at first, afterwards gradually becoming unsettled and scattered rains developing in western and southern areas of the South Island.. Temperatures will be rather milder but some further frosts are to be expected tonight.

Pressure over the Dominion is now j very high. There has been comparatively little eastward movement of the anti-cyclone covering New Zealand i and the eastern Tasman Sea, but it has intensified considerably since yesterday. At the same time, there has been a marked fall of pressure over south-eastern Australia, and this morning a rather deep depression was located just west of Tasmania. Winds have been light to moderate and variable, with southerlies predominating over the North Island and northerlies in the far south. Except for some isolated light rains in coastal areas of Southland, the weather yesterday was fine with almost cloudless skies over most of the country. There was some further scattered light rain in parts of Otago last night. This morning fine weather was again general, although there had been some increase in the amount of cloud. Temperatures have been cold and there were some sharp frosts last night In Auckland yesterday the weather was bright and sunny with very little cloud. The temperature was cold with a light southerly breeze. The maximum temperature was 55.4deg and the minimum last night 35.8deg. There was a slight frost at Hobsonville this morning. By 9 o'clock skies had become cloudy. . ~ Yesterday in Wellington was brilliantly fine, with a very light northerly breeze which turned again to southerly in the evening. The sunshine amounted to 7.1 hours. Temperatures were cool, the "maximum being 53.5deg and the minimum last night 41.0deg. Skies remained clear all day yesterday at Christchurch. There was no wind and rather hazy conditions prevented any appreciable rise of temperature. The maximum reached was 48.1deg and the minimum last night was 31.6deg, there being lOdeg of frost this morning. At Dunedin there was a cool southwesterly breeze, but the day was bright and sunny until early afternoon, when skies began to cloud over. During the night .04in of rain fell and skies were still overcast this morning.
