WOMEN'S HOCKEY

ASHBURTON OUTCLASSED (By Telegraph—Press Association.) ASHBURTON, June 22. In very cold, showery weather, and on a slippery ground, the English women's hockey team beat Ashburton by 9 goals to 1. Playing against the wind, the visitors scored 5 goals to 1 in the first half. Good stick play beat the Ashburton efforts time after time, and the visitors' I positional play was also superior. In the second spell Ashburton showed superiority in a number of movements, but lacked ability to round them off, the excellent positional play of the visitors again nullifying the attack. For England Miss West scored four goals, Miss Wright three, and Misses Shelmerdine and Judd one each- Miss G. Lowe scored for Ashburton.
