"Ladies* Day" in the Wimbledon lawn tennis championships was sizzling hot. , Mrs. Pittman was unable to reply to the superior versatility and vigori ous driving of Miss Wynne (Australia). Miss Hardwick was definitely superi ior to Miss Hartigan in a hard-driv-i ing match. Miss Jedrzejowska, last year's run- ' ner-up, produced a stream of beau- [ tiful drives in defeating Miss Steven- ' son, who made a gallant fight. Miss Coyne had an easy victory over Miss Yorke, a versatile doubles player. Mrs. Mathieu, who defeated Miss Lizana in a quarter-final last year, repeated the victory in the second round today.
