ATTEMPT ON EVEREST

NORTH COL OCCUPIED

THE WEATHER GOOD

RUMOURS DISPELLED

(Received June 21, 11.50 a.m.)

LONDON, June 20.

A "Times" copyright message, from Mr. H. W. Tilman, leader of the Everest Expedition, written at Camp 3 on May 26, stated that the North Col was occupied by four Europeans and 15 porters, and added that the weather was good, with no wind.

This is the second message within two days, after a silence which was long enough to start, rumours that early onset oi the monse-on had caused abandonment of the attempt. Such rumours are now shown at least to be premature. No information has yet been received that the party intends to return.
