DANGEROUS BEND

LORRY TURNS OVER

FIFTEEN SHEEP KILLED

(Special to the "Evening Post")

FALMERSTON N„ This Day,

When a lorry laden with>cull ewes I was yesterday, negotiating the ■ acute turn in the hill at Linton known to motorists as the devil's elbow, the steep camber of the road caused the vehicle to turn over on its side. The crate was smashed and fifteen of the sheep killed. The driver fortunately escaped with minor abrasions.

A breakdown wagon was obtained to pull the lorry on to its wheels again, and there was very nearly a second mishap. When on.its wheels the lorry began to run. backwards downhill. The driver jumped to the seat and managed to steer it successfully . down to the flat portion of the road before it left the highway and ran on to the grass.

The present state of the highway at the acute bend is very dangerous for lorries, which have to move slowly.
