MOTOR-CYCLIST'S DEATH ] SERIOUS LEG INJURY (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 29. Laurence Joseph Kiesanowski, aged 26, received fatal injuries in a motorcycle accident early last evening. Mr. Kiesanowski, with his brother. David on the pillion, was riding a motor-cycle towards Christchurch. Near Burnham a motor-car travelling in the opposite direction drew out to pass another vehicle, striking the motor-cyclist's leg, which was torn off below the knee. Mr. Kiesanowski was admitted to hospital at 6.45 p.m. yesterday and died at 12.45 p.m. today. The pillion rider escaped serious injury. RETURNED SOLDIER KILLED (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, May 29. Fatal injuries were received by a returned soldier, Ernest James Jones, aged 44, Grey Lynn, when he was knocked down by a motor-car on Saturday nighty . WELLINGTON CASES "When a car in which they were travelling ran over a bank in the Ngahauranga Gorge shortly after midnight on Saturday, Mr. L. A. Lawer, a tram conductor, of 9 Glenville Road, Wellington, received injuries to his right leg, and Mr. C. Lawton, a carpenter, 12 Brussels Street, Wellington, severe facial wounds. They were taken to hospital by the Free Ambulance. | Mr. R. M. Scott, a trimmer, 5 Morley Street, Karori, and Mr, M. A. Macdougall, plumber's assistant, of 84 Wilton Road, Northland, were both taken to hospital suffering from injuries to their right ankles as the result of a collision between a motor-cycle and a motor-car at Trentham Camp 'at 5.10 p.m. on Saturday. Miss N. Cannons, a clerk, of 38 Wellington Road, received shock and internal injuries when the motor-car i which she was driving struck a pole ; in Salek Street, Kilbirnie, about noon yesterday. A child of four who was | a passenger in 'the car cried out that ! she was slipping off the seat. Miss i Cannons, thinking that the child was drawing herf/attention to a door opening, reacheti -.over to see if the door was all right. It was then that the accident occurred. Miss Cannons was
taken to-"hospital by the Free Ambulance. The child was not injured. As the result of injuries sustained while playing Rugby and Association football, the following players were taken to hospital on Saturday by the Free Ambulance: —M. Duffy, 8 Liverpool Street, printer, fractured left leg; N. Wood, Patanga Crescent, engineer, injury right knee; R. Gibb, Main Road, Upper Hutt, grocer, concussion; J. Shaw, Main Road, Johnsonville, baker, concussion and lacerated left ear; L. Metcalf, 52 Mem .Street, public servant, concussion; Fred Hunt, 192 Coutts Street, printer, injury to neck; H. Megson, Fort Dorset, soldier, injury right foot; D. Penman, 5 Manchester Street, motor-driver, concussion. Mr. F. McNeill, supervisor for Cable and Co., residing at the Western Park Hotel Tinakori Road, fractured his leg in a fall at 5.10 p.m. on Saturday.
