CRICKET GAIN
SHEFFIELD SHIELD PLAYER LOXTON FOR INSTITUTE In Wellington on transfer from Australia is Colin Loxton, Sheffield Shield cricketer and member of the staff of Burns, Philp, and Corilpany. It is likely that he will be here for some time, and that he will be a most acceptable addition to the ranks of local cricketers goes without saying. His intention is to join up with the Institute Old Boys' Cricket Club, of which Mr. L. J. Brabin (who also hails from Australia, though a Wellington resident of long standing) is a prominent official. Colin Loxton is an old boy of the Melbourne Grammar School, and played his cricket there when Hassett, R. C. M. Kimpton, Gregory, and others who have made their mark in big cricket, were in opposing school teams. His cricket progress, in Australia was interrupted when he went to Cambridge University, but during the years that he was there (1932-36) he played quite a fair amount of cricket. Returning to Australia, he made his mark in Queensland cricket, and last season, when he captained the Queensland Colts against New South Wales, he won his way into the Sheffield Shield team. Loxton is a right-handed batsman,, and usually opens. In club cricket last season he averaged about 54 runs per innings, and 1 in the previous season he made over 600 runs at an average of about 42. He is also a useful change bowler. ,
