CHRISTCHURCH, This Day,
Arising out of divorce proceedings undertaken by Anthony George Bouterey against his wife, Coral Pearl Bouterey, on the grounds of adultery, in the Supreme Court, Christchurcli, on August 27, 1937, Bouterey stood in the dock this morning and faced two charges of suborning to perjury. He pleaded not guilty.
The Crown Prosecutor, Mr. A. W. Brown, said that Bouterey was charged with procuring or persuading two men, Douglas William Dyer and Cyril Wilfred Stanley, to give false evidence in the court. The jury's task would be to decide whether the two men gave false evidence, and if so did it at Bouterey's instigation. The evidence would be that Bouterey concocted a story with Dyer and Stanley to the effect that they attended parties aboard the launch Phyllis at Napier, where on three occasions they saw Mrs. Bouterey commit adultery. Later Dyer went to the police and said that he had never been in Napier in his life and had never seen what he described in court. Interviewed by the police, Stanley made similar admissions. Bouterey, in a statement to the police, denied the 1 charges. Evidence on these lines is proceeding. .
