WEST FULHAM BY-ELECTION

LONDON, April 7.

The West Fulham by-election to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Sir Cyril Cobb resulted:—

Edith Summerskill (Labour),

C. J. Busby (Conservative), 15,162, This is a Labour gain.

The West Fulham seat ■ had been occupied by Sir Cyril Cobb continuously since 1930. He was returned in 1918, but was defeated by a Labour candidate by 2211 votes at the 1929 General Election. He recovered it, however, in May, 1930, on the resignation of the sitting Labour member. At the 1935 General Election Sir Cyril Cobb polled 18,461 votes, the Labour candidate 14,978, and a Liberal 1132.
