NEW ZEALAND FORESTS.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —The sentiments expressed by "AntKDespoilers1' in your issue of Tues^ day are. certainly to the point sp far as the national need is concerned, but "Anti-Despoilers" do, not tell us how the continued destruction of our highland forest can be qbvjated. Take for instance our Forest Service. The only obvious means of revenue-to maintain this organisation is the royalty obtained from the milling of our native forest. Also, we have much capital invested in milling machinery, not. to say anything of the numher of people employed in this industry and the profit accruing therefrom. Our exotic plantations are not sufficiently matured, and are insufficient in extent, to furnish our present timber requirements, —I am, etc.,
DESPOILER.
