AN UNEXPECTED ALLY

Much adverse criticism was levelled at the Heriot Post Office building on Tuesday afternoon, when a deputation of residents waited on the PostmasterGeneral (the Hon. X Jones) requesting that a new building, should be erected (states, the "Otago/ Daily Times"). Several speakers referred to the dilapidated state of. the building, and one member described it as. being little better, than a rabbit hutch.- Suddenly, from practically under the feet of the gathering outside the Post Office, ft startled rabbit appeared. It took one look at the group, then raced to the Post Office,' and dived to sanctuary in a burrow under the building. Thus was the speaker's point graphically illustrated and a touch of humour given to relieve the seriousness of the proceedings. .' ■ .
