SCHOOLING AT AWAPUNI

With the going easier t after rain, the. Awapuni track was much slower this morning when candidates for the Manawatu Meeting were given their final work-outs. A number of horses were out, but most of the tasks allotted were of a sprinting nature. The galloping was all done on the course proper, with the flags 40 feet out.- \
Stretto, who ■ yesterday did a brilliant seven furlongs, was restricted to pace work this morning. -She looks in great heart.'
Royal Chief ran along very easily on the bit over three furlongs in 39£ sec.
Catalogue, who was restricted to pace work, looks well. It is not certain whether he will start in the King George Handicap or the Awapuni Cup. Considering the going Laughing Lass did a very satisfactory six furlongs in lmin 19sec, working freely. . _ '. Defaulter, accompanied "by Sudan, compassed six furlongs in lmiii' 19 4-5 sec. Wildflower finished in front of Big Dook after six furlongs in lmin 19 3-ssec. '.' '. , . Cletrac, who bears a much-improved appearance, was associated with' Sky Full in an easy seven furlongs in. lmin 37 4-ssec. Rolling Home ran five furlongs in lmin ,6Jsec. ' Quadroon went seven furlongs under a strong hold, sprinting home the last three in 41 l-ssec.' Selkirk dashed over three furlongs in 39£ sec.
Bluffer ran away from Warehi over a mile in lmin 49sec, the last seven furlongs in lmin 35 2-ssec. Great Legion did an attractive three furlongs in 39 2-ssec.-'Merry Thought took 39 4-ssec. •■ •■•■■-. ■• Hunting Cat and Good Sun took"lmin 36sec for seven furlongs, .the-Jast six in lmin 20sec. Royal Choice and Ambition did six furlongs in similar time. Old Bill ran half a mile in 53J sec. ■„.
Silver Biver went an easy five furlongs in Imin B£sec, Vadanoe and Copycat covering the same distance in Imin 6sec. Jubilee Song beat Dainty Sue over five furlong's in lmiri 7£sec. There was'some interesting schooling work, the pairs associated . being Hirangi and Sunee, Forest Glow and Kentucky Song, Tangled and Fair, Day, and Royal Limond and Tiger Bill. Most gave : a satisfactory display, particularly Sunee and Forest: Glow. ■ After breakfast Laggard and.Siegmund ran six furlongs in. Imin 25sec. Ecstatic moved well over three furlongs in 39sec. Florence-Mills,-under a good hold, took 37sec. : Ned Cuttle and Majority did halfpace, work. Rehearsal, Jack Tar, Sport> ing Gift, and Ruinette-did light exercise on the inner track.
