NATIONAL PARTY

LEADER AT WANGANUI

A CROWDED MEETING

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

WANGANUI, March 22.

The Leader of the Opposition, the Hon. A. Hamilton, and Mr. S. G. Holland, M.P., addressed a crowded'meeting in the Opera House this evening on the policy of the National Party. It was Mr. Hamilton's first official visit to Wanganui. The Mayor, Mr. W. J. Rogers, presided.

The speakers traversed the policy of the National Party, stating that it stood for security and.freedom as opposed to State ownership and control and worker-control in industry.

Mr. Hamilton said that this country had been built up by private enterprise. His party did hot believe in the Divine Right, of Kings or .the Divine Right of State. There was but one place for Divine Right and that was between the individual and his God. The speaker traversed in detail the twelve^ points of the National Party's policy and impressed upon the audience the importance of the correct government of the country. Mr. Holland, who had to deal with several interjections, contrasted the promises of the Labour Party and its accomplishments. At the conclusion of his "address the following motion was declared carried on the voices: "That this meeting expresses its appreciation of the able, informative, and convincing addresses delivered by Mr. Hamilton and Mr. Holland, and fully endorses the criticism and the policy which they have propounded." An amendment expressing no confidence in the National Party was not accepted by the chairman, as it was a .direct negative. *
