BEEF GENERALLY FIRM
Firm prices ruled for Sail classes of beef at the Westfield stock sale yesterday. The entry was a well-assorted one of fair quality' and fulfilled all buyers' requirements. The quality was not up to the standard of recent entries in a large supply of sheep. Wethers sold best at fully firm rates, but there was an easing tendency among ewes. Fat heavy lambs were offered. In an average yarding values were slightly ■ dearer. An extra large entry of calves included mostly good , quality heavy ' and medium vcalers. ■ Bidding was steady, but values decreased up to 3s a head. A full entry of pigs met with keen demand. Baconers increased slightly, while porkers were firm.' , Only a few pens of outstanding bullocks were abovej recent parity at Burnside. The quality generally showed little improvement. There was a slight -easing at the commencement, prices remaining steady for the ' remainder of the sale. There was an unusually large supply of fat sheep and . the market opened, easy on recent parity. There was a further easing towards the end of the sale. The fat lambs were of similar quality to those seen-at recent sales and brought prices equal to late rates. Porkers found a ready market, but baconers, though in , short supply, were not wanted ana eased in value.
PAHIATUA SALE. The New Zealand Co-operative Distributing Company offered a heavy yarding of station cattle, and a good yarding of sheep at the Pahiatua weekly sale on Tuesday. The station cattle yarded were-of high standard, being well grown and in good condition, especially the grown cattle. The 18----months steers appeared to be neglected on the day, their condition generally being light in. comparison -to the grown cattle. A total of 900 head of station' cattle and over 1000 sheep was offered,' and .with the exception 'of a few pens of cattle which were passed in,' most venders met the market. A choice line of store P.A. bullocks offered on account of' Hodgins Bros, realised £11 13s, which topped the store bullock market. A line offered on account of H. H.
