SPORTS AT OTAKI

(Special to the "Evening Ppst."}

OTAKI, January 24. Sports were held at Otaki on Anniversary Day: by the Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club,' and under the guidance of capable officials were a great success.

The various events were well contested, the main events being the Blakeway Memorial and the Whit MacLeod Memorial (cycle events), for which valuable trophies were given. Graham (Taihape) was the winner of the first event, having a length to spare on F. Blackett (Otaki), who in turn beat V. Blakeway (Christchurch) by a very narrow margin. In the second race Les Sowerby (Wellington) was the winner, racing home in good style to beat L. Walsh (Wellington) with V. Blakeway (Christchurch) again filling third position.

The mile cycle race was won by Graham (Taihape), who defeated B. Coulter (Shannon), with Anderson (Rotorua) third. The three-mile cycle was won by F. Blackett (Otaki), L. Walsh (Wellington)' being second, and B. Coulter (Shannon) third.
