CRICKET

PLUNKET SHIELD TEAM

WELLINGTON SELECTION

The Wellington Cricket Association's selector, Mr. A. W. Duncan, announced yesterday afternoon the following team j to represent Wellington in the Plun-! ket Shield match against Otago at Dunedin, commencing on February 4:— ' 1 J. R. Lamason (captain), E. W. Tindill, C. Parsloe, W. Pritchard (Mana- j watu), N. Gallichan (Manawatu), M. P. Donnelly (Taran'aki), H. Rice, M. Thomas, J. Ell, •W. Bain, M. Browne, and S. Ward (twelfth man). Should any of the bowling strength i represented in this selection not be I available other bowlers will be substituted. D. A. R. Moloney and E. D. Blundell were not available for selection for this match. The team differs from that which I represented Wellington against Canterbury at Wellington at the New Year. S. Ward, R. Crawford, and D. S. Wilson have been dropped from the side in favour of M. Thomas, M. Browne, and C. K. Parsloe. The . inclusion of these three, provided Parsloe is in form, should give greater strength to the Wellington batting and greater variety to the attack. Since he returned from his matches with the New Zealand team in Australia, Parsloe has been off the scene I in local club vcricket, but on Saturday j he; mad 6 a reappearance for Kilbir- ■, nic against University. He contributed ' 13 runs to Kilbirnie's total, and took one of the three University wickets that had fallen when play ended for the day. It has been stated that, it is I just possible ■he may find it difficult to obtain leave to tour with the Wellington side. Thomas was twelfth man against Canterbury and his performances in club cricket and his general promise merit his inclusion. Browne, as has been stated previously in "The Post," has always been a slow bowler worthy of consideration. In club cricket he has also been consistent with the bat.
