AURORAL DISPLAYS
FINE SHOW ON SATURDAY
As was to be expected, in view of the gigantic "sunspot which is at present in operation, auroral displays were visible at the weekend. On Friday night the East Coast was treated to a remarkably fine display, the phenomenon being observed for a lull halfhour. In Wellington on Friday" night, the aurora was faint, but on Saturday night for a short time it was brilliant, and presented a very fine spectacle for a short period between 10 and 10.30. Those who saw it describe it as one of the best they: have ever seen. Quite possibly there was another display last night, but thick clouds completely covered- the sky. A watch on the sky should be kept this evening if the clouds disperse by then. The magnetic effects of the sunspot have been most marked during the past few days, and radio reception has been badly-affected.
