AT A FALSE PRICE

MISHNA REPEATS SUCCESS

It was rather surprising to find the Douro Cup winner Mishna relegated to ninth favouritism in the Kelburn Handicap, and so he was enabled to come home at a very false price. Recovery bettors went hot for Silver River, but the topweight was not equal on this occasion to hanging on after again making his own running, and he could not even save his investors through a place dividend. Mishna won differently from what he did in the Douro Cup, for he did his job from the rear instead of up with the leaders. He was half-way back in the field on reaching the straight, and his chance looked forlorn when a whole line was in front of him half-way down the stretch, but his chance came m the last half-furlong, when he shot up on the inner and beat Roy Bun in the last strides. , ~ This Rabbi horse thus confirmed the good opinion that has previously been advanced on his behalf. He will have to do his future racing in open company, but he promises to measure up to the higher grade. He may be one of the few Douro Cup winners to go on to notable deeds. Roy Bun was another at a good price. Moving up on the home turn, he was next after Silver River and Lady Montana on reaching the straight, then he shot to the front with Salient Knight-in pursuit at the, distance, but, though he held this rivalat bay, he could not cope with the winner's final burst on his inner. This was truer form from Roy Bun than he showed on the first day. Salient Knight, better favoured in the running than he was in the Douro Cup, came home strongly, but third place another head away was the best result he could achieve. Royal Choice went in improved style to be a handy fourth. Good Sun was a possibility when he came through near the distance, but he then faded again. Night Dress, well placed to the straight, showed no enthusiasm at the end. Silver River and Lady Montana,

who sorted themselves out early, both cracked up after entering the straight. Cricket began well but soon was drifting and he never afterwards came into prominence.
