FORM RECOVERED

AUREUS WINS HACK SIX

Showing something of her best form again, Aureus was too brilliant for her opposition in the Kaitoke Handicap. She did poorly after her arrival at Trentham, and. she ran a very-bad race in her previous start at the meeting but evidently she picked up after that outing, for she kept up to her task from start to finish on Saturday without any sign of flinching. Aureus; who was at good prices on this occasion, was always one of the first two horses in the running. Amoroso was just in front of her crossing over on -to1- the straight, but she thin assumed control and withstood challenges from Lord Nuffield and Conversion. It was the effort of a good filly, even if it be allowed that Lord Nuffleld might have been a little unlucky. . Aureus is another member of the Desert Gold family. She is a three-year-old bay filly by Gascony* from the All Black—Aurarius mare Aureate, a full-sister to Desert Gold. Nigger Minstrel, and D'Oro,, and the dam previously of Dawning Light. She was secured by Mr. M. Millar, of Palmers - ton North, as a yearling for 250 guineas, and though she is requiring time, because she is rather delicate, she is now beginning to become a profitable investment. Her four wins this season have removed her from hack class. Lord Nuffield nfight have been the i winner had he not received a check lat the end of a furlong. That lost him his position, but he came fast, over the closing stages to run the winner |tO Chonve arsion gt handy from the start, dashed through the gap at the false ! rail and was almost up with Aureus at the distance, but he was unable to sustain the effort and dropped back Nereu's, again slow to move, was running on fast in fourth .place. .Sunbeam was fifth without improvmg a deal on the trip. Am°roso ana 1?^ Chapter, prominent early, both weakened over the closing stages. Vadanoe, out on the track again, produced none of the brilliance that he showed m winning on the first day. Great Quex I was again finishing well.
