MAJOR C; R. E. MACKESY
A prominent member of a military | • family, Major.Charles Reginald Ernest Mackesy, aged 54, died at the homesjead of his Whitfordlarm, North Auck.! 'land,,' on; Thursday, , Major Mackesy! was the "son of Colonel.,C. E,R. Mac-, Jcesy.'who left New Zealand in charge of the North' Auckland Mounted Rifles I : section of the Main Body for the Great "War. Both Major Mackesy and his brother, Lieutenant H. Mackesy, who wan killed at GallipoU in 1915, were attached to their father's regiment. :" Major Mackesy , was born at Clifton, '.'Kansas^ United States*' and came, to' ,>.New Zealand as a boy with his parents, 'who. settled in Whangarei, The family, ■three:,sons, together with their ' father. Were always keenly'interested in :the .Volunteer movement. ; Major .■Mackesy saw four years' service on ,'ttie battlefield,: being once severely wounded in the chest, an injury from which- he suffered until the time of his : death. On. returning to New Zealand •i after the war, Major Mackesy' took 'over a. dairy farm.at Whitford, where he was;,engaged for the remainder of hiß life, ;He married Miss. li.
