• The forecast for the Dominion as a whole issued at noon today is as fol* lows:—Northerly to westerly winds predominating, but southerlies soon extending over the southern half of the South Island, and later to beyond Cook Strait, light to .moderate but -freshening north of New Plymouth1 and Napier, elsewhere moderate to strong, and reaching gale force in exposed positions about and south of Cook Strait; Weather mainly fair at first in the northern and eastern portions of the North' Island, otherwise changeable with scattered rain. Temperatures warm, but becoming cooler in the South Island.
The recent anticyclone is now passing eastwards off the North Island, and since last night a rather intense westerly depression has been crossing the South Island. Northerly winds have therefore prevailed, and have been strong to squally in the Cook Strait area, but elsewhere they are still mainly light to moderate, and in the far north variable in direction. The weather was fine and warm generally yesterday, but since last night it has become cloudy and overcast in western districts and in the southern half of the' South Island, and scattered rain has fallen in the latter area, with some rather heavy falls in the extreme south. At Auckland the weather continued to be fine and warm, a south-easterly breeze prevailing yesterday. By this morning a gentle west-north-west breeze was reported there.- : - •■ Wellington had a fine, warm day with a light westerly wind. Sunshine amounted to 13.5 hours. The maximum temperature was 75 degrees, and the minimum 60 degrees. The north-west-erly has become strong and squally since last night. I'he" weather was fine and warm at Chrislchurch yesterday with a fresh north-easterly wind. The maximum temperature was 73 degrees, and the minimum 50.9 degrees. At 9 a.m. today it was overcast with intermittent rain, and a light cast-north-east breeze was blowing. The Dunedin weather was fair to cloudy and warm, a light north-west-erly wind prevailing. Some rain fell during ttie night, and this morning it was overcast and foggy with a gentle easterly breeze. Two points of ..rain $K.. •--■ -■ —«"-----^
